I really like the variety of waterless cleansers and conditioners out there, since protecting our environment is very important to me. I hate to say it, but even after trying this bar I'm still looking for a conditioner bar that works for me and my hair. My hair is long, fine, and straight. I rubbed and rubbed, but was unable to get enough of this bar to coat my hair. I'll continue to try it, but I have little faith I'll get any benefit from it.
I have tried using this as a waterless wash product, and also in the shower on wet hair (no shampoo, just rubbing the soap cake down my hair)...no idea how this product is intended to be used. Either way, with out without water, I don't feel any cleaning or hair coating affects.
This bar was an absolute delight to use. My hair feels shiny and silky and very manageable.It looks healthy too.Love the mild smell. Washes off well with no greasy residue.
This isn't a no-wash shampoo. You have to use it on wet hair after you wash it. You could also use it after a conditioner is rinsed out. I initially thought it was odd to rub a soap bar over my head. I also didn't love the scent and thought about how I would describe it. My mind trailed off to zeitoun and I looked up what Dave Eggers has been up to since. He's still quite active and has a few options on pre-order. What is the 28 for? I might not ever know...Well that's how my 3-minute wait time elapsed before I towel dried my hair. I found that my hair was nice to the touch, although it was just about the same amount of hairs that were sacrificed in the ritual.
So... this took some getting used to. Keep in mind, it's not a shampoo, so it's not going to foam up. The first time I tried it, I got my hair wet and just rubbed it along my hair, and wasn't really impressed, as I didn't notice much in the way of results. The next time, I also got the bar really wet, and did 1" sections of my hair, ran it along from roots to ends, then kind of ran my fingers through my hair to distribute, and had slightly better results in the way my hair felt, but not much difference in appearance. I will say my hair did NOT feel greasy or weighted down. Hopefully it will get better with each use!
